The Different and the Erroneous 2007-09-24

If two things are "different," it means that the two objects being compared are not the same. Referring to an idea or a story as "erroneous" signifies that it deviates from reason, calculation, fact, or an established standard; the term also carries a negative tone especially when a planned event does not progress swimmingly.
Many people, however, mix up the two terms and use them incorrectly. Opinions between two individuals may simply be "different" but people may think the other's input is "erroneous."
Keeping in mind that such behavior is an act of self-righteousness and arrogance – not acknowledgment of the difference in thoughts or opinions – each of us must humble ourselves, thinking the other better than ourselves, and treat each other with mutual respect.

"Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves" (Philippians 2:3).
