A Woodpecker - Hankook Ilbo [The Way] 2008-12-12

A woodpecker pecks trees 16 times a second, the velocity of which is twice faster than that of a bullet. The shock a woodpecker receives to its head when it pecks trees is comparable to the power a rocket counteracting gravitational forces when it is launched. This is possible because it has an impact energy absorber like a sponge in its head. In fact, the highest of scientific developments are constituted into its structure such as neck muscles that keep its neck always vertical, a special cavity that keeps its tongue safe, sharp toenails and strong leg muscles, hairs that protect its bill and the tail feathers that maintain its balance. All these things are necessary for its survival and missing just one of these factors results in death.

"You created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being." (Revelation 4:11)
